Sport. A glorious escape from the chaos of life.

A chance to lose yourself in the spectacle of human achievement, agility, and, occasionally, a very large man attempting to punch a ball into a net while also punching the air. It’s an oasis of simplicity in a world fraught with complexity.

Or so we like to tell ourselves.

But here’s the thing: sport isn’t, and has never been, just sport. It’s political. Always has been. And, frankly, it needs to be.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."

~ Rogers Hornsby
